I run writing workshops and offer author talks for different organisations and schools around Melbourne, and Australia, with regular workshops offered through Australian Writers’ Centre and Booked Out.

The big news is that for the first time I’m running workshops with the Queensland Writers Centre! The first is a 90 minute Writing Legends workshop for young people (ages 10-16 years) on Saturday 22nd June. The second, on Sunday 23rd June, is a full-day workshop for adult writers who are looking for ways to write more evocatively and with punch. See below for details…

WRITING LEGENDS – Saturday, June 22nd, 10.30am – 12.00 noon.

Writing Legends is a practical, interactive writing workshop that offers dynamic story prompts, writing challenges, and guidance in story development by award winning author and screenwriter, Nicole Hayes. Structured specifically for beginning / emerging young writers aged 10-16, students will benefit from tips on where to find ideas, building a story, and finding their voice.  BOOK HERE

SHOWING AND TELLING IN FICTION – Sunday, June 23rd 10am – 4pm.

So often we’re told “show, don’t tell” in our writing, but what does that mean, and is it always true? In this course, we break down what is meant by “show, don’t tell”, what it looks like, how to apply it and when – including when not to. Award winning author, Nicole Hayes, will draw on examples of when it works, when it doesn’t. Through guided exercises and handy tips, Nicole will guide participants in how to construct dynamic scenes that serve your story, and bring out your best writing.  BOOK HERE
